During mitosis metaphase differs from anaphase in haring half the number of chromosomes and same number of chromatids. This can be explained as
Metaphase is the second phase of mitosis in which chromosomes are aligned in the center of the cell between each of the mitotic spindle poles.
In anaphase, there is a shortening of spindle microtubules. The two sister chromatids of each chromosomes are pulled apart towards the poles of the cell.
Thus, the number of chromosomes is half in metaphase when compared to anaphase but number of chromatids are same.
